UNICUS ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Unicus Environmental Policy Statement
Unicus Ltd is committed to complying with all relevant environmental legislation as well as achieving environmental best practice throughout its business activities, wherever this is practicable. Furthermore, Unicus seeks continuous improvement of its environmental performance by setting objectives and targets within the Organisation to achieve its set goals.

Unicus Ltd conducts internal environmental reviews to measure environmental performance and to ensure compliance with statutory legislation and other requirements applicable to our business activities.

Unicus Divisions will set environmental objectives and targets with the support of professional advice. Performance indicators are set, paying particular attention to:

1)    Reducing stationery, packaging and office consumables consumption, both virgin and recycled, for internal company use.
2)    Recycling/re-using internal company stationery, packaging, electrical & white goods, and consumables where this is practicable.
3)    Reducing non-renewable energy usage in company buildings and fossil fuels for vehicles and seek to increase the usage of energy from alternative sustainable sources as they become available.
4)    Increasing the use of alternatives to hazardous chemicals, materials, and substances, that are more readily biodegradable or have less impact on the environment.
5)    Training of our staff in environmental awareness and environmental management systems.
6)    Procuring products from sustainable sources wherever possible.
7)    Managing waste streams effectively and reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.
8)    Using the best available techniques to reduce emissions to air and water, and prevent uncontrolled accidental release.

Unicus Ltd is a service business. We will do our best to promote environmental awareness amongst our clients and, where practical, actively encourage them to adopt best environmental practice and co-operate with those that have environmental management systems in place where there is sound commercial and technical rationale.

Unicus Ltd will seek to influence and encourage, through the selection and management processes, key suppliers and sub-contractors to adopt best practice and reduce their impact on the environment.

This policy will be implemented through the management structure of the Unicus Organisation, direct responsibility remaining with senior management within the individual divisions.

This policy statement will be reviewed on a regular basis and updated to reflect improved environmental awareness, adoption of new technology, the development of alternative resources and changing legislative requirements.

In addition to meeting our legal responsibilities we are committed, in a cost effective & structured manner, to continuous improvement of our Health & Safety performance and to embrace OH&S as an integral part of our overall business performance. In order to help achieve continuous improvement annual safety plans will be drawn up to cover key objectives. Progress will be monitored through annual management review.

Unicus consists of two operating divisions, each having its own Divisional Manager.  The General Manager is ultimately responsible for Occupational Health & Safety within the business, paying particular attention to:

1)    The establishment, maintenance & documenting of procedures for hazard identification, assessment of risks, and implementation & regular review of necessary control measures.
2)    Provision and maintenance of plant, equipment, and materials that are safe and without risk to the health of our employees or others who may be affected by our business activities.
3)    Arrangements for ensuring safety and absence of risks to health in connection with the use, handling, storage and transportation of all materials and substances.
4)    Provision of such information, instruction, training and supervision as is necessary to ensure the competence of individuals not only to perform specific tasks that may impact on Occupational Health & Safety in the workplace but also that they are competent to carry out their duties & responsibilities.
5)    Maintenance of any place of work (including client\\\'s premises) in a condition that is safe and without risks to health so far as is reasonably practicable.
6)    Regular involvement and consultation with employees on matters relating to their health or safety at work and to gain their commitment to the implementation of this policy.
7)    The integration of the Organisations Occupational Health & Safety Management System within their individual companies overall management systems, giving it equal status.
8)    Provision of appropriate health assessment and surveillance of employees as required.
9)    Provision of adequate and appropriate resources to implement and maintain this policy.
10)    Setting, implementing, reviewing and internal publishing of annual company Health & Safety plans and objectives.
11)    The establishment of periodic audits of compliance of the health & safety policy within their business.

The Organisation places the management of Occupational Health & Safety as a prime responsibility of line management from first line supervisory level to General Manager. Disciplinary action will be taken against any employee, regardless of status, who wilfully or deliberately disregards, or who is consistently negligent in conforming to, the Organisations safety policy. Failure to comply with legislation concerning Health & Safety at Work will be regarded as gross misconduct, which may lead to dismissal.

All employees have a legal responsibility and duty to take reasonable care to ensure their own safety and that of other persons who may be affected by their work activities.

This policy will be kept up to date, particularly as the business changes in nature and size. To ensure this, the policy and the way in which it has operated will be reviewed at least every year.

This statement of policy and responsibilities, having been adopted by Unicus, will be issued to all employees, and be displayed on company notice boards.

Quality
UNICUS QUALITY POLICY

Quality will be maintained by utilising a system whereby tasks will be inspected by an approved quality inspector, on a scheduled basis.  Our quality systems comply with TQS2: 2005.

The quality inspector will complete a QA Inspection form which will evaluate the level of quality for each area of the works undertaken against the specification, as well as the overall impression of presentation of the site - with regard to general appearance.

This information will be entered into our QA database to allow analysis of the data and trends as they develop. A copy of the QA inspection form will be sent to the client liaison officer along with a detailed report showing a breakdown of the dates and times that any site maintenance occurred, any problems encountered during the execution of the works (including a report on any property damage observed), any hazards identified, and any other data relevant to the maintenance regime.

This system is designed to identify and eliminate any defects in the maintenance system as they occur, before they become a problem.
